Capitol Hill Good Neighbors is a group of ten congregations on Capitol Hill working together since 2016 to support refugee families in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Our team has helped dozens of families with aid and furnished over 30 apartments for refugee families with donations from the community. For two years, we sponsored an Afghan family of five by providing financial, social and employment support. In 2019, Good Neighbors agreed to sponsor another family, newly arrived from El Salvador. Today, we work alongside 25 families — over 70 adults and children helping them to move from merely surviving to truly thriving in their new country. The energy and enthusiasm of the Capitol Hill community about this project has been impressive. In fact, the D.C. City Council issued a proclamation in March 2018 recognizing this incredible effort.
